Video below shows the wave impact on the Cobb harbour during Storm Ciaran on the 2nd November 2023. This demonstrates the role of the Cobb as a coastal defence and breakwater for the town and the wave impact on the structure.
The project team managing the Cobb Stabilisation Scheme are exploring additional funding options as rising inflation has meant there is a need to add to the £3million budget. Meanwhile, the Cobb itself is being routinely monitored by the Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) team for damage.
Sara from DCF and Flooding Swanage with artist Andy Knill Art celebrated a rescheduled Outdoor Classroom Day on 23rd in Swanage (due to Storm Ciaran and a yellow weather warning on 2 November!) with a combined total of 153 local pupils from Swanage Primary St George’s Primary School and St Mary’s. Learning about coastal flood protection on site where it happens, the pupils also learnt more about how the artists created their work.
Huge thanks to Andy – remember he starts the first of 4 FREE Talking Art Walk Swanage – monthly Talking Art Walks along the seafront meet at Andy’s studio on Commercial Rd at 11am. You can collect an art trail leaflet from Swanage Information Centre if you’d like to know more about the project
The next Repair Cafe event is on Saturday 18th November at All Saints Church, Swanage 2-4pm. Come along for:
Clothes repair. Bring your favourite items of clothing that are in need of repair and our volunteer fixers will be on hand to help you make all possible repairs ( we cannot do zips unfortunately) No charge although donations welcome to cover costs of running events.
Do you or someone you know have skills in repairing anything from clocks, bikes, small electrical items or furniture and many other household items? Come along on Saturday to find out more about signing up to be a repair café volunteer at our next events. We have seasoned repairer Stewart on hand who is from Wimborne Repair café, he will answer your questions and discuss what type of things get repaired. Be part of a positive community project and help promote repair and save more broken items from the rubbish bin.
Clothes swap – refresh your wardrobe at the clothes swap stall. Bring your good condition, clean clothes for a swap, up to 10 items per person, 1 item = 1 token. Childrens, Mens and womens clothing (no shoes unfortunately) 2pm-2.30pm drop off. 3pm -4pm come back to spend your tokens.
A cuppa and chat about all things repair! – tea, coffee and cake available, donations to cover costs
Following the success of our clothing repair events, we are supporting the development of a repair café for Purbeck. This is an international movement inspired by the will to prevent good quality items being thrown away if they can be repaired. We are looking for volunteers to get involved.
