Weymouth Railway Heritage Information Event – Thurs 10 February
Posted : February 3, 2022
Calling Weymouth historians, railway enthusiasts and the community to share their memories, stories and photos of Weymouth’s Train Station and Harbour Tramway.
Dorset Coast Forum is looking to create information panels and artwork for Weymouth train station and surrounding areas where the old harbour tramway line has been kept. This information will be a reminder of the local railway heritage for the community, and to tell the story to Weymouth’s visitors.
We are keen to hear about your memories and knowledge and will be at:
Weymouth Library, Great George Street on Thursday 10 February,
between 2pm and 4pm for you to pop in and chat to us!
The railway heritage information will be the final phase of the Weymouth Station Gateway Improvement Scheme which is currently seeing the station forecourt under construction to improve the station’s pedestrian areas and shared path linking the Jubilee Business Park and King Street, called pocket park. The work is being carried out for the benefit of the local community and all users of the station to experience a more welcoming, attractive and safer environment with improved wayfinding and sustainable transport links.
The main construction and infrastructure work along with landscaping, planting is due for completion at the end of March 2022. We can then look at implementing heritage information and wayfinding on these sites to remind people of the local railway’s heritage.
