DCF Vacancy – Project Coordinator
We are advertising for a Project Coordinator. The role will be delivering an element of the Building Resilience in Flood Disadvantaged Communities (BRIC) project, working with communities to develop flood resilience networks, design resources, and ensure they have a voice within future developments of flood and coastal risk management. Swanage Town Centre Flood Defences
DCF hosted a key stakeholder event about the Swanage Town Centre Flood Defences in April and we have also launched a stakeholder survey targeted at Swanage residents, businesses and organisations located along the seafront who are directly impacted by flooding events and the proposed flood defences.

Message from DCF Chair, Tony Flux
Tony Flux has a sad message to share about the passing of Phil Dyke who was the National Coast and Marine Adviser for the National Trust for nearly 20 years.

Matilda Manley will be leaving Litter Free Coast and Sea after nearly 12 years with the Dorset Coast Forum. She is a much-valued part of the team who has inputted across all of DCF’s work and will be missed. I’m sure you will join us in wishing Matilda the very best of luck. We hope to update you on the next steps for Litter Free Coast and Sea in the next eNews.

Swanage and Studland Bay Water Safety – new leaflet and website
The Swanage and Studland Bay Water Safety Partnership have introduced new water safety measures aimed for jet skiers and motorised boat users visiting the area. The measures include water safety leaflets, signage, information webpage, standardised incident recording form and regular water safety patrols from Easter until mid-September.

 

FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE DEVELOPMENT 

The Fisheries and Seafood Scheme is still available and Martin is on hand to help with project development, application and answer any questions you or your network might have.

After presenting at the Dorset LEP One Health event last month, Martin has been invited to be a panel member for the One Health Nucleus Sand Pit event on May 12th.

LITTER FREE COAST & SEA (LFCS)

Dorset Beach Clean 22-23 May
LFCS are back with their 31st annual Great Dorset Beach Clean over the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd May. This year’s event is being hosted in partnership with Clean Jurassic Coast.  21 beach cleans, hosted by local organisations and community groups, will be taking place from Lyme Regis to Christchurch.  Places are limited for each event so do book onto your chosen event in advance to guarantee your place.

Litter Free Coast and Sea have worked with PAWs on Weymouth Beaches & Open Spaces to fund and install angling line pipe bins around Weymouth and Portland for anglers to use to responsibly dispose of their fishing tackle.

SUSTAINABLE SWANAGE

Wildlife Surveys
Sustainable Swanage have begun a programme of wildlife surveys at sites across the town this summer, we are looking for more volunteers to help with the surveys.

National Walking Month
We are celebrating National Walking Month and Walking to school weeks this May, highlighting the benefits to your health and the environment of walking and swapping short drives for short walks.
